John Lash's personal experiences form the basis for the action.  Lash grew up in a cowboy family.  He attended Texas A&M University where he played in the famous Aggie Band.  He performed in rodeos and worked on ranches in Texas and New Mexico.  The illustrations were done by the author whose work is sold in the States as well as in Switzerland where he now lives on a farm.  He teaches riding, writes and illustrates.
